Blogging away...
March 25 2013
I feel in limbo lately, waiting for all sorts of things.

Waiting for the Arabella Canadian Landscape painting competition to get to the final stage. It's been a year since I signed up, and while I don't realistically expect to be a finalist, I feel like everything is on hold pending the end of this pretty significant art event. I'm still struggling to come up with a worthy third painting to submit, which in a way has hampered me from just painting whatever I want throughout the past year. All painting submissions have to be in by the end of May, so we are getting close now.

Waiting to find out from the Board of Governors for the Federation of Canadian Artists why my application for signature membership status was declined. I lost it by only one lousy vote with half of the 16 Governors voting in my favour, and the other half voting to deny me acceptance. With an even number of jurors, there was no tie-breaking vote possible. The explanation might discourage me, might anger me, or might be a beacon of light showing me the path to better art.

Waiting for inspiration to strike. I just finished a painting that I'm not really happy about. I'm going to put it aside for awhile and will look at it again with fresh eyes in a few weeks or months to see if I can understand what it needs or even if it is salvageable. Meanwhile, I want to paint something that really gets my adrenalin flowing, and I may have something in mind. Will have to get it started over the Easter weekend to see if I can pull it off.

Waiting for April 16 for confirmation of my appointment to the Board of Directors for the Federation of Canadian Artists, where I hope to be able to contribute more than just ideas, even if I can't be a signature member.

Waiting for a sale so I can replenish my art account and order more copies of the book of my paintings that I "published" this month. The book is a 30-page soft cover, 8 x 11" publication featuring a bit of my story as an artist, including pictures of my city and Island studios and 30 of my better paintings. I ordered 10 copies initially, and they are all now spoken for and I'd like to print a hard cover edition next, although soft cover is more affordable. It was quite amazing how easy it was to put this together online, and how well it turned out.

Sometimes you have to be patient and wait it out.
